New Mexico Police On Horseback Apprehended Sticky-fingered Shoplifter

A rather unconventional chase unfolded in New Mexico. The Albuquerque police, blending the worlds of technology and the Wild West, managed to apprehend a shoplifter with the help of their trusty horses. The entire incident, captured on crystal clear police body camera footage, showcased this unique encounter between the old and the new.

The suspect in Albuquerque was pursued by the police after he allegedly stole $230 worth of goods from a Walgreens on the west side of town. Instead of the typical sounds of police sirens and screeching tires, the alleged culprit heard the thundering hooves of Officer Charles Breeden’s horse as he chased him down the concrete streets and sidewalks.

“Hey, Albuquerque police!” Breeden shouts at the suspect, Mark Chacon, who is 30 years old. “You’re under arrest! Let’s go!”

According to Breeden, the horses had recently been released from the trailer to start their patrol shift for a pedestrian safety operation. It was at this moment that they were made aware of Chacon, who was seen running in a zig-zag pattern through the tranquil streets of Albuquerque.

Chacon vehemently denies his involvement, shouting, “Wasn’t me!” as Breeden approaches him. The officers, mounted on their trusty horses, quickly encircle Chacon, effectively trapping him in the middle of the road. With their equine partners providing the necessary power and control, they successfully apprehend Chacon.

Sgt. Mike Schroeder of the APD Horse Mounted Unit expressed his satisfaction with the officers, stating, “I am very pleased with their performance. They are carrying out their duties diligently and effectively, leaving no room for doubt.”

Schroeder issued a stern warning to those who plan on evading the law: “If you try to escape, remember that horses will always outlast you. You’ll only end up exhausted and in jail.”

Chacon is currently being charged with multiple offenses, which include being in possession of stolen goods, attempting to evade law enforcement, and having drug paraphernalia in his possession.
