New poll reveals decline in young voter support for Biden due to two prominent issues

According to a new poll, President Joe Biden is losing favor among young people, who are dissatisfied with his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict and other issues.

According to the Harvard Youth Poll, which included 2,010 18- to 29-year-olds, Biden would outperform Trump by 50% to 37% among registered young voters and 56% to 37% among likely young voters. Among all young adults under 30, 45% support Biden and 37% back Trump. 16% of Americans are undecided.

In comparison, the president had a significantly larger lead at this point in the 2020 race, according to the poll. 60% of likely young voters under 30 backed Biden, whereas only 30% supported Trump. 51% of all young adults backed Biden, while 28% supported Trump. We conducted the poll between March 14 and March 21, ensuring a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percentage points.

Setti Warren, the director of Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics, stated in a press release that young people today have clear concerns about our country’s direction. “From worries about the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and climate, young people across the country are paying attention and are increasingly prepared to make their voices heard at the ballot box this November.”

The Israel-Hamas conflict is one of the issues driving young voters to the polls. The poll indicated that more young Americans believe Israel’s actions are unreasonable rather than justified.

Immigration is also becoming a popular topic. While 53% of young Americans believe there is a crisis at the southern border, 50% believe that immigrants “improve the culture” of the United States, and 45% oppose building a wall.

Other polls have shown that Biden has low support among young voters. According to a January USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll, Trump leads 37% to 33% among registered voters under the age of 35.
