New York City Mayor Questioned Over Luxury Apartments For Immigrants

Aiexpress –  On Sunday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams faced questions and criticism over a plan to put illegal immigrants in apartments with swimming pools and marble bathrooms.

The plan would lodge immigrants in what Spectrum News termed an “unused luxury apartment building” at 2201 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., which outraged several Harlem neighborhood forum attendees.

Two people were removed from the meeting due to heightened tensions, while several community members brought placards with phrases like “Millions on migrants.” “What about youth programs?”

“We already have a homeless shelter,” Harlem resident Tyrone Ball told Spectrum News. “If you go outside this building, there is a large shelter and another one up the block beyond that. We don’t need another one.

Other participants praised Adams’ response, including St. Nicholas Houses Resident Association President Leslie Johnson, who stated, “I like the support we got.”

“We know that he cares,” she remarked. “We know that he hears us.”

Adams recently warned that the city does not have enough room for immigrants and that the inflow of illegal immigrants will force residents to sleep on the streets.

“We’re not just saying we’re out of room as a sound bite,” Adams told reporters. “We simply have no more room. “People will eventually sleep on the streets.”

The mayor offered a two-hour workshop on housing to further address the issue.
