New York City Migrants Arrested In $5,300 Shoplifting Spree After Traffic Stop Also Turns Up Drugs: Cops

Aiexpress –  Three migrants who live in Manhattan’s notorious Roosevelt Hotel were arrested for a New Jersey stealing spree in which they stole $5,300 in clothing, perfume, and other items, according to police.

According to authorities, the thieving three—DDugleidy Gonzalez-Riera, 28, Yefferson Prieto-Galviz, 23, and Morelis Blanco-Cineros, 41—wwere apprehended after a traffic check in Wayne, New Jersey, on Valentine’s Day with a car loaded with drugs and stolen clothing from many businesses.

“A search of their persons and the vehicle produced ecstasy pills, drug paraphernalia, and large quantities of stolen merchandise, including clothing, shoes, and fragrances from Ulta, Kohl’s, JC Penney, and Macy’s, with a total value of over $5,300,” Dan Daly, a WPD detective, said in a statement.

Wayne authorities stopped the automobile after noticing it tailgating another vehicle—aand one of the occupants was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.

None of the three people inside could give a driver’s license or speak English, and the license plate was discovered to belong to another vehicle, authorities added.

Authorities also found a lot of clothing items from the Ulta Beauty store with their retail tags still attached, which they claim is frequently the target of thieves in addition to drug paraphernalia.

Police contacted the retailer, which confirmed that apparel items similar to those in the vehicle had been stolen during the previous two hours and provided photos of the individuals. The culprits were subsequently arrested.

They gave the police bogus names before being identified.

The defendants were each charged with shoplifting, possession of a controlled hazardous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and receiving stolen property.

Prieto-Galviz and Blanco-Cineros were also accused of obstructing arrest.

All three lived in the Roosevelt Hotel, which is now a migrant refuge in Midtown Manhattan.

Police believe the alleged burglars are at risk of jumping bail; therefore, they are being kept in Passaic County Jail until detention hearings.

Last June, New York City leased the Roosevelt Hotel from Pakistan for $220 million for three years to serve as a shelter during a major flow of migrants crossing the southern border.

Asylum seekers have overcrowded the 1,000-room shelter, forcing migrants to sleep on the ground and even in parked automobiles outside.

Since the migrants arrived, there have been dozens of arrests at the once-iconic hotel.
