New York Woman Faces Attempted Murder Charges Following Altercation Over Laundry

According to the police, an employee from New York City has been charged with attempted murder following an altercation with a man in a laundry room located within an East Harlem apartment building.

According to a criminal complaint obtained from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Diamond Matthews, 22, was captured on video engaging in multiple instances of punching a man (Gothamist).

Matthews collaborates with the New York City Office of Technology and Innovation, a department that offers 311 services.

According to a tenant in the building, she overheard the altercation between Matthews and the other individuals, as reported by the New York Post.

“I could hear shouting coming from inside. It was about clothes. Someone was screaming, ‘Don’t touch my clothes, don’t touch my clothes!’ she recounted. “They leave their clothes in the machine and walk away. That’s selfish. Other people also need to use it.”

According to a spokesperson from the New York Police Department (NYPD), Matthews was taken into custody on Tuesday following a disagreement between her and her father involving a 45-year-old man.

According to the complaint, Matthews explained to investigators that she had a disagreement with one of the individuals responsible for laundry, and she sought assistance from her father to resolve the situation.

The NYPD has confirmed that the unidentified victim, who was in stable condition, has been transferred to a hospital. However, no information has been provided as to why the father has not been arrested.

Matthews appeared in court on Wednesday, where the judge set her bail at $15,000 or a $10,000 bond. She pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder and attempted assault and was able to secure her release by paying the bail amount.

According to the New York Post, she is expected to make another appearance in court on Tuesday.
