North Carolina Democrats urge voters to select Biden in November to preserve Affordable Care Act

North Carolina Democrats are already voicing their concerns about healthcare in anticipation of the upcoming general election.

President Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech at Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston.

Friday marked the 14th anniversary of the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, a milestone that Democrats leveraged to rally support for the re-election of President Joe Biden later this year.

During his previous tenure as president, Donald Trump expressed his intention to repeal the ACA if re-elected.

Former U.S. Representative G.K. Butterfield emphasized the crucial significance of not allowing Donald Trump to win the election, particularly for North Carolina. He highlighted the potential consequences, stating that millions of North Carolinians would lose their health insurance. Additionally, he expressed concerns about the impact on the 4.2 million individuals with pre-existing conditions such as cancer and diabetes, as their access to care could be jeopardized.

In 2023, around 600,000 individuals in North Carolina were able to access expanded Medicaid under the ACA. However, Democrats have now cautioned voters that these advancements may be at risk of being reversed.

Channel 9 has contacted the North Carolina GOP for comment regarding Friday’s statements and is currently awaiting a response.
