NYPD: The driver who led authorities on a chase was wanted for other crimes

The man responsible for wreaking havoc in a Staten Island neighborhood by driving a stolen truck and causing damage to numerous cars has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Rompa from New Jersey, according to the NYPD.

The New Jersey police informed the NYPD about Rompa when they discovered that he had driven into Staten Island in a stolen truck.

Police said that a total of 28 vehicles, which included three police cars, were damaged during the 40-minute chase.

Debris still litters Van Duzer Street, a stark reminder of the events that unfolded five miles away at Bishop Street and Cranford Avenue last Friday, where officers first attempted to stop Rompa.

Rompa is facing a total of six charges, which include assault and reckless endangerment, fleeing from an officer in a vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, grand larceny auto, and leaving the scene of an accident.

“They’re all extremely shaken up, I must say,” she remarked.

Dixon mentioned that she took the initiative to cover the cost of customers’ rideshares so they could safely return home before the scene was cleared around 1 a.m. During this time, her son witnessed the arrest of Rompa by the police.

According to Dixon, when he peered outside, he could hear the man running and exclaiming, even after being apprehended by the police, “I’m going to do it again.”

Amazingly, residents and police officers who were taken to nearby hospitals only suffered minor injuries.

According to Perez, this is the greatest blessing we could hope for in all of this.

According to the police, Rompa had previously stolen three cars and was wanted for multiple crimes in New Jersey and Staten Island.

According to sources, Rompa hails from Sayreville, New Jersey, as reported by CBS New York.
