Poll Shows Hochul’s Approval Rating Drops Due To New York’s High Cost Of Living, Crime, And Migrant Crisis

Aiexpress – New Yorkers are becoming increasingly frustrated with Governor Kathy Hochul, as indicated by a recent poll that reveals a significant drop in her job approval rating. The survey highlights the state’s exorbitant cost of living and the ongoing migrant crisis as the primary concerns voiced by voters.

According to the recent Siena College poll, it seems that the Democrat’s declining favorability and job approval ratings can be attributed to the various quality-of-life concerns. Hochul’s favorability rating dropped from 45-42% in January to 41-46%, while her job approval rating decreased from 52-43% to 48-47%.

According to a recent poll conducted by an upstate college, 29% of registered New York voters expressed that their main concern for the governor and the legislature to address is the cost of living. Other top issues on their minds include the migrant crisis, crime, and affordable housing.

“New Yorkers were clear on the top issues they wanted the Governor and Legislature to address in September, and those are the same issues they want Albany to address today,” Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said in a press release.

“The cost of living in the state, the recent influx of migrants to New York, crime, and the need for affordable housing were the top issues in the fall and remain the top issues today.”

Republicans were more than twice as likely to raise concerns about the surge of migrants in the state, while Democrats expressed concern about affordable housing more than six times as frequently as GOP voters.

“The top three issues for Democrats are cost of living, housing and migrants,” Greenberg said. “For Republicans it’s migrants, cost of living and crime. Independents say cost of living, migrants and crime.”

Hochul’s numbers dropped just a month after she received her first positive favorability rating in 11 months in a Siena survey in January.

The good news for the governor, who was propelled to power when Andrew Cuomo resigned in 2021 and was elected the following year, is that the majority of New Yorkers believe she is hardworking, and a plurality of those polled believe she is honest and not corrupt.

According to Greenberg, the top concerns among Democrats are the cost of living, housing, and migrants. On the other hand, Republicans prioritize migrants, the cost of living, and crime. Independents, meanwhile, also prioritize the cost of living, migrants, and crime.

According to the pollster, the bad news is that a “plurality of voters, including a majority of Republicans,” believe that Hochul is “out of touch with average New Yorkers.”

According to the poll, President Biden would receive 12% more support than Donald Trump in a head-to-head rematch of the 2020 election. In a four-way race, Biden would emerge as the winner with a 10-point lead, as per the survey findings.

Enthusiasm for the president has waned in the blue state, which is a concerning trend for the incumbent. Despite winning the state by a significant margin of 23 points in the last election, the latest numbers suggest that support for the president has decreased.

Siena College conducted a survey of 806 registered voters from various parts of the state between February 12 and 14. The survey was conducted through a combination of landlines, cellphones, and online panels.
