Prisoner facing 106 more years in prison for double murder after the Kansas Supreme Court rejects his appeal

Aiexpress – Richard Showalter, the man convicted of a 2018 double murder in Topeka, has had his appeal denied by the Kansas Supreme Court. Showalter, who is currently serving multiple prison terms totaling 106 years, had hoped to overturn his conviction but was unsuccessful in his legal efforts.

The high court made an announcement on Friday that it has dismissed all four arguments presented by Showalter. He sought to have his convictions overturned for various crimes, including two counts of first-degree murder in the 2018 southeast Topeka killings of Lisa Sportsman, 28, and her cousin, 17-year-old Jesse Polinskey.

Showalter has been sentenced to a term that prohibits him from being released until the year 2130, by which time he will have completed a minimum of 112 years and three months in prison.

Bradley Sportsman and Matthew Hutto were also found guilty of crimes related to the case. It is worth noting that Bradley Sportsman and Lisa Sportsman were married but had separated at the time.

Bradley Sportsman, a 46-year-old inmate, is currently serving time at Ellsworth Correctional Facility. According to the corrections department website, his potential release date is set for 2057.
