A teenager with autism who is non-verbal went missing on Monday. Thankfully, the teenager has been reunited with his family.
The 18-year-old was discovered unharmed on Wednesday, several miles away from his residence.
Throughout the day, we maintained constant communication with the family. By evening, there was a call from Chad May’s sister, who was filled with excitement as she shared the news of his discovery. With urgency, they made their way from Queens to Lower Manhattan, eager to offer comfort and support to Chad in the emergency room at New York-Presbyterian.
May is expected to return home soon, putting an end to a challenging couple of days for this family.
An 18-year-old boy disappeared while riding his bike in front of his Laurelton home on Monday evening. Surprisingly, he managed to make his way to Lower Manhattan. On Wednesday, his sister revealed that the non-verbal teenager had unintentionally entered an ice cream shop. At first, the employees kindly served him a scoop, but soon realized that something was amiss as he showed no intention of leaving.
Upon the arrival of the police at the shop, they requested him to provide his name, to which his sister confirmed that he did so flawlessly. Subsequently, upon entering his information into the system, the officers discovered that he was a teenager who had been reported missing from Queens. Consequently, he was transported to the hospital for further observation.
According to his family, he is feeling extremely exhausted, although his appetite remains robust. They have noticed a decline in his food intake, indicating that he has not been eating well. Fortunately, medical professionals have not discovered any injuries during their examination.
“My mom and I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement, even though we were cautious due to past experiences. We shared the news with each other, hoping that this time it would be different. To our delight, even the detective working on the case shared in our happiness. It was a moment of pure joy for everyone involved,” recalled Shenelle Williams, the sister of the victim.
May’s family may never learn about the experiences he endured in the past few days due to his inability to communicate verbally. At the moment, they are relieved to know that he has been found and eagerly anticipate his safe return home.
