Research Indicates That Conservatives Are Poised For Their Worst Election Outcome To Date

According to a recent poll, it appears that the Conservatives are headed towards their worst election outcome yet, with projections suggesting they may win fewer than 100 seats.

According to the poll, the Scottish National Party is projected to secure 41 seats, followed by the Liberal Democrats with 22 seats and Plaid Cymru with two seats.

Naomi Smith, the Chief Executive of Best for Britain, emphasized that the polling data reveals a significant shift in voter preferences away from the Conservative Party. This indicates that the upcoming election will bring about a change in the political landscape.

In 2019, the Conservatives secured 365 seats, while Labour held 203 seats. The SNP had 48 seats, the Liberal Democrats had 11 seats, and Plaid had four seats.

According to Labour sources, the party’s financial position remains robust, despite a decline in membership subscriptions. This is attributed to healthy donations and the anticipated significant support from unions for the upcoming election campaign.

Labour’s membership has experienced a significant decline of over 23,000 in the past two months, as reported by figures shared with its National Executive Committee (NEC). This decline can be attributed to controversies surrounding the party’s policy on Gaza and its recent reversal on green investment.

According to David Evans, the general secretary of the party, Labour membership has seen a significant decline. In January, the membership stood at 390,000 but has now dropped to 366,604. Out of these, more than 11,700 members are in arrears. It is worth noting that Labour membership had reached its peak in 2019, surpassing 532,000.

According to Luke Akehurst, a member of the NEC, the Labour Party’s membership is currently at historically high levels. Akehurst pointed out that at the end of the party’s last period in office in 2010, they only had 150,000 members.

According to the current opinion polls, it appears that there is no connection between being a member and gaining popularity in elections.
