Steelton Prisoner Dies In Dauphin County Jail

Aiexpress – A convicted felon serving a maximum sentence of 23 months in Dauphin County Prison was discovered unresponsive on Friday morning, authorities confirmed that afternoon.

Justin Cofield, 33, of Steelton, began serving his sentence on August 31, 2023, and was pronounced dead in jail at 10:08 a.m. on February 23, according to Dauphin County officials.

At 9:33 a.m., DCP authorities responded to a medical emergency on I Block. As EMS came, a jail guard reported that Cofield had been found unresponsive in his bunk, laying on his stomach. EMS attempted to save lives; however, the coroner was eventually called.

Coroner Graham Hetrick confirmed that an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Dauphin County Criminal Investigations Division and DCP Internal Affairs are investigating.

Cofield was a well-known drug dealer who had recently reached a plea agreement on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, according to court records. He was serving time concurrently for a number of charges, the majority of which involved drugs. He was set to begin six months to two years on probation upon release, according to his most recent dockets.

According to social media, Justin was a parent who left behind his children and extended family, who will miss him terribly.
