Ted Cruz Criticizes Democrats Tossed ‘2 Centuries Of Precedent’ By Rejecting Mayorkas Articles Of Impeachment

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) criticized Democrats in the Senate for disregarding two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday. Cruz argued that this move goes against centuries of precedent in the Senate.

In a post on X Thursday, Cruz expressed his strong disapproval of Chuck Schumer’s actions, stating that Schumer had disregarded over two centuries of precedent in the United States Senate. According to Cruz, Schumer’s decision to strip the Senate of its right to hold an impeachment trial is a clear indication that the Democrats do not prioritize the Constitution or the rule of law.

In a historic move, the Senate, controlled by Democrats, decisively rejected two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas. The vote, which took place just a few hours into the proceedings, resulted in 51 senators voting against the articles and 49 senators voting in favor. This marked a significant departure from the usual process, as it’s the first time in 225 years that the Senate chose to dismiss impeachment charges outright, without holding a floor trial or referring the matter to a special committee for review.

According to Cruz, during an interview on NewsMax, he highlighted the fact that in all 22 instances where the House brought impeachment articles against an individual, the Senate conducted a trial, except in cases where the individual either passed away or left office.

In a recent statement, he expressed his disappointment at the Democrats’ decision to disregard their Constitutional duty. He highlighted the fact that for the past 200 years, it has been the norm for every Democrat to carry out their duty diligently. However, he pointed out that this time, they have chosen not to allow a trial to take place. They have refused to consider any evidence and have made it clear that they will not be taking the matter into consideration.

According to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), there is no need for a trial since the House has already sent over what he considers to be “the least legitimate, least substantive, and most politicized impeachment trial ever in the history of the United States.”

Cruz tried to prevent Schumer’s attempt to dismiss the charges by proposing a motion to have the Senate engage in a private debate about the constitutionality of the impeachment. However, Democrats voted against it.

Republicans have been pushing for an impeachment to bring attention to the Biden administration’s stance on immigration and border security. The House articles have accused Mayorkas of breaking immigration laws and betraying the public’s trust, claiming that he has violated his oath of office.
