Texas Bus Company Agrees To Stop Transporting Migrants To New York City Because Mayor Eric Adams Is Suing Them

A bus company in Texas has decided to stop bussing illegal immigrants from Texas to New York City because Mayor Eric Adams is still suing them.

On Wednesday, the bus company Roadrunner Charters agreed to stop transporting refugees by signing a letter of conditions.

“The Defendant Roadrunner Charters Inc. will refrain forthwith from transporting individuals known as migrants from Texas to New York City and/or from Texas to the vicinity of New York City,” the letter said, partly.

If the 17 companies, including Roadrunner Charters, didn’t pay for the cost of care for migrants, the New York City Department of Social Services said they were breaking New York state law.

The case asked for damages of $708 million.

The lawsuit talks about a rule in New York that says anyone who brings in a “needy person” from another state to become a public charge must either leave the state with the person or help them.

Adams stated in a statement that he is “pleased” that Roadrunner Inc. has decided to stop transporting migrants to New York City by bus in an “attempt to overwhelm our shelter system.”

Adams stated, “New York City continues to play our part as we lead the nation in managing this national humanitarian crisis, but we will not tolerate reckless political games from the state of Texas.”

“I am pleased to see that Roadrunner—oone of the bus companies we sued for taking part in Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s scheme to transport tens of thousands of migrants to our city in an attempt to overwhelm our shelter system and shift costs to New York City—hhas agreed to halt the bussing of migrants into and around New York City while the lawsuit proceeds,” said Adams. “We call on all other bus companies involved in this suit to do the same.”

Adams first filed the case in January, saying that busing migrants was a “reckless political ploy.”

“New York City has and will always do our part to manage this humanitarian crisis, but we cannot bear the costs of reckless political ploys from the state of Texas alone,” said Adams. “Today, we are taking legal action against 17 companies that have taken part in Texas Governor Abbott’s scheme to transport tens of thousands of migrants to New York City in an attempt to overwhelm our social services system.”

“Governor Abbott’s continued use of migrants as political pawns is not only a mess and cruel, but it also shows that he values politics more than people.” Adam Adams said, “Today’s lawsuit should be a lesson to all who break the law in this way.”
