Texas Governor Greg Abbott Criticized Over Migrant Crisis At Gala In NYC

Texas Governor Greg Abbott faced criticism over the busing of migrants to sanctuary cities during his visit to New York City for a Republican gala on Thursday.

“We were only sending them to Washington, D.C., and Mayor Adams suddenly starts criticizing me out of nowhere for sending them to New York City,” expressed Abbott. “After a while, I realized that if I’m going to receive criticism, I might as well receive the credit as well.”

According to data from Texas state, officials have transported more than 105,000 migrants to sanctuary cities since August 2022. This includes approximately 39,000 migrants who were bussed to New York. These numbers account for over 20% of the total migrants that have arrived in New York City since last spring.

Mayor Eric Adams announced on Thursday that he intends to extend an invitation to a certain individual to stay at one of the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers. The purpose of this invitation is to provide this individual with an opportunity to witness firsthand the consequences of his actions and gain a better understanding of how people are being treated with the dignity and respect that he failed to demonstrate.

The mayor publicly accuses Abbott of shifting the responsibility of the migrant crisis to other cities.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Hilton Hotel, where the fundraiser took place.

“We are protesting against the entire GOP,” stated Luba Cortes, a representative from Make the Road NY. She emphasized the unity of communities in expressing their unwavering stance that immigrants should not be treated as mere political pawns.”

City officials have reported that there has been no response from Abbott’s team to any of the calls made by the Adams administration after migrants were sent to New York City.
