Third South Dakota Tribal Nation Prohibits Noem From Reservation

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is the third tribe to tell South Dakota Representative Kristi Noem (R) she can’t be on their land.

On Wednesday, the Standing Rock Tribal Council made the decision to ban Noem from setting foot on its land. This was in response to her comments, which were deemed as racially charged, made during town hall events. Noem alleged that certain tribal leaders are personally profiting from the activities of Mexican drug cartels on reservations. The South Dakota Searchlight reported on this development.

Alkire held a special meeting in response to the introduction of a motion to ban Noem by Alice Bird Horse and seconded by Cyril Archambault.

In February, the Oglala Sioux Tribe took the decision to ban Noem following her remarks at the border. The president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, Frank Star Comes Out, emphasized that the ban was enacted immediately to ensure the safety of Oyate.

The Cheyanne River Sioux have recently voted to prohibit Noem, making it known that she is no longer welcome on approximately 10 percent of the land in the state she governs, as reported by CNN.

South Dakota Governor, Kristi Noem, took to social media platform X to announce an exciting opportunity for the state’s tribes. In a video posted on Thursday, she unveiled plans to develop a law enforcement training course during the summer. This initiative is set to make history and aims to provide valuable skills and knowledge to the tribal communities.

According to her, this training is a crucial initial step in addressing public safety issues in our tribal communities. Although it may not solve every challenge, it is an important step forward.
