The State Department has recently updated its security warnings for U.S. government employees in Israel due to concerns of a potential retaliatory attack by Iran.
The U.S. Embassy in Israel has issued a security alert on Thursday, imposing travel restrictions on American employees and their family members. Until further notice, personal travel outside of the greater Tel Aviv area, Jerusalem, and the southern city of Be’er Sheva is prohibited.
The embassy has decided to issue the security alert as a precautionary measure. They have also stated that they may impose further restrictions without prior warning in response to any security incidents.
The U.S. citizens in Israel are advised to stay updated with the ongoing travel advisories and to be mindful of the persisting risks associated with traveling to the country.
According to John Kirby, the White House communications adviser for national security, the administration considers the Iranian threat to be “viable.”
He stated, “We are closely monitoring it.”
“We have maintained close communication with our Israeli counterparts regarding the preparations for this threat.”
