Trump Lawyers File Appeal In N.Y $464 Million Fraud Judgment

Aiexpress – Former President Donald Trump has filed an appeal on his civil fraud judgment, which has now reached $464 million, according to his attorney.

Trump’s lawyer has indicated their intention to challenge the ruling made by New York Judge Arthur Engoron on January 16. The ruling stated that the former president had provided false information about his wealth and the value of his assets in order to secure more favorable financial terms.

“We have full confidence that the Appellate Division will reverse this excessive fine and take the appropriate measures to rebuild the trust of the public in New York’s legal system,” expressed Alina Habba, attorney for Trump, in a statement.

The First Judicial Appellate Division is set to hear the case and make a decision on whether Trump can have the penalty dismissed.

Trump, along with his co-defendants, including his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., as well as various Trump Organization entities and two executives, has filed an appeal challenging “each and every part” of the ruling.

In their filing, the defendants have requested the court to determine whether Engoron and the court made any mistakes of law or fact, abused their discretion, or exceeded their jurisdiction.

Last week, Trump’s attorneys requested Engoron to postpone the enforcement of the penalty. The penalty amounts to $355 million plus interest and the purpose of the delay is to safeguard his appellate rights.

Engoron, on the other hand, declined the request.

“You have failed to explain, much less justify, any basis for a stay,” he said. “I am confident that the Appellate Division will protect your appellate rights.”

In addition to appointing an independent financial monitor for the Trump Organization, Engoron’s ruling states that the former president’s two elder sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, are barred from conducting business in New York for two years and must pay $4 million in restitution each.

In January, Trump was ordered to pay more than $83 million to writer E. Jean Carroll for defamatory claims he made after she accused the former reality TV star of a 1990 sexual assault.

Trump is also awaiting a trial on March 25, where he will face 34 felony counts for falsifying business records in connection to the hush money payments made to former adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
