University Of Washington Football Player Arrested And Charged With Raping Two Women

A University of Washington football player has been arrested and accused of raping two women in Seattle, and court documents show that he participated in two College Football Playoff games for the school after at least one of the claims was made known to the university.

Seattle police officers detained Tylin “Tybo” Rogers, 18, on Friday and placed him in the King County Jail, according to KING-TV. Court documents charge him with second- and third-degree rape, setting his bail at $150,000 in each case.

It was not immediately clear whether Rogers, of Bakersfield, California, has an attorney to speak on his behalf. Records from the jail indicate his release on bond. The Associated Press was unable to contact him right away.

The University of Washington athletic administration announced Rogers’ suspension from all team activities until further notice on Tuesday. The institution will continue to gather evidence and assist police as required, according to the statement.

Police received a report from a student at Seattle Central Community College about her rape in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of the city last year. According to court records, Rogers and the 19-year-old woman met and began texting after matching on the Tinder dating app in August 2023. Rogers went to her residence to hang out on October 23 and assaulted her, according to court records.

According to court filings, the lady reported the alleged rape to police on October 28 and filled out a sexual assault kit at Harborview Medical Center.

Police reported a rape of a 22-year-old University of Washington student in the University District in November 2023.

According to court filings, the woman first met Rogers at a campus Halloween party before matching with him on Tinder. Police said the two made plans to hang up a few weeks later, and when Rogers entered her apartment, he was instantly forceful and assaulted her. According to the lady, Rogers once “used one of his hands to strangle her.”

The second woman reported the alleged rape to the university on November 28, police said. Rogers allegedly called her on that date to confront her with the charges, according to court filings.

Court records also show that the team suspended him from team activities in late November 2023. The freshman running back did not accompany the squad to their Pac-12 Championship triumph over the Oregon Ducks on December 1.

At the time, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb stated at a news conference that Rogers was “working through some things, some challenges he’s had off the field,” according to court filings. According to the records, Rogers returned to team sessions in mid-December.

The University of Washington athletic department also forwarded multiple emails confirming Rogers’ removal from the team’s travel roster for the Pac-12 championship game, but the records revealed no explanation for this decision. He was able to play in the Huskies’ two College Football Playoff games a month later, though.

Rogers recorded five carries for 19 yards in the Huskies’ semifinal triumph over the Texas Longhorns on Jan. 1. The 18-year-old rushed for two yards in the National Championship Game against the Michigan Wolverines on Jan. 8.

Kalen DeBoer coached Washington last season, but he departed after the national championship game to become the head coach at Alabama. Jedd Fisch is now Washington’s head coach.

After practice on Tuesday, Fisch informed local journalists that he had received no information about Rogers’ suspension last year or the reasons behind it.

“I wasn’t here for that,” Fisch replied. “As soon as I found out about the allegations, as soon as they were brought to our attention, he’s been suspended indefinitely. I can’t comment on what happened in the past. That has no connection to me.
