Vice President Kamala Harris played host to a gathering of influential women in the sports industry at her residence on Wednesday. The esteemed guest list featured prominent figures such as league commissioners, team owners, athletic directors, and accomplished athletes.
The Women’s History Month Celebration was a remarkable event, held in collaboration with the Women’s Sports Foundation. It was an honor to have the presence of Billie Jean King, the founder of WSF, gracing the occasion.
Harris emphasized the importance of providing equal opportunities in sports to empower and nurture the growth of young women.
Kamala Harris emphasized the impact of the work individuals do on a daily basis, emphasizing its benefit to people irrespective of their gender. She shared a piece of advice her mother gave her, stating, “You may be the first, but make sure you are not the last.” Harris encouraged individuals to define their own identities and not allow others to dictate who they are. This mindset serves as the driving force behind the work she and others are committed to.
Some of the esteemed guests in attendance included Scout Bassett, a Paralympian and the President of the Women’s Sports Foundation; Jessica Berman, the commissioner of the National Women’s Soccer League; Nikki Fargas, the president of the Las Vegas Aces; Darcie Kassewitz, the owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Francie Gottsegen, the president of the North Carolina Courage; and Renee Montgomery, the owner of the Atlanta Dream.
