Who is Maura Murray?

Maura Murray, a native of Hanson, Massachusetts, came into the world on May 4, 1982. During her time at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, she excelled as a track star.

Maura dedicated three semesters of her academic journey to studying chemical engineering at the prestigious United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

During her second year of college, she decided to transfer to the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in order to pursue a degree in nursing.

When did she go missing?

Maura, who was 21 years old at the time, was reported missing on February 9, 2004.

In Haverhill, New Hampshire, her black four-door Saturn sedan veered off the snow-covered road and became trapped.

Maura was nowhere to be found when the police arrived at the scene of the crash on Route 112. Since then, there has been no sighting or communication from her.

Earlier in the day, surveillance footage captured Maura at an ATM in Amherst. She was seen wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

She most likely started her journey towards New Hampshire at approximately 4 or 5 pm.

At 4:37, she last checked her voicemail using her cellphone.

No evidence has ever emerged suggesting that she disclosed her intended destination or informed anyone about her travel plans.

What has Maura’s family said about the case?

Maura’s family is once again demanding answers and justice in her case, nearly two decades after her disappearance.

Julie Murray, the sister of the missing person, expressed her frustration and concern to Western Mass News, stating, “Our family is completely in the dark. We have no information or answers regarding the situation.”

“We make every effort to meet with investigators and obtain essential details about the disappearance, but unfortunately, we have been unable to achieve that,” she expressed her frustration.

More than 50 people joined Julie on August 15, 2023, at a rally held in front of the New Hampshire attorney general’s office.

A group of families and friends, who are searching for their missing loved ones, came together to appeal for additional assistance in resolving these cases.

The New Hampshire attorney general’s office addressed the rally in a statement provided to Western Mass News.

“We understand their disappointment, frustration, and the tension that can arise when a resolution or new publicly-available information is lacking, sometimes for decades.”

“We are committed to fulfilling our mission of pursuing justice in all prosecutions, particularly in cases involving murder or missing individuals.”

“We, at the New Hampshire Department of Justice, always bear in mind that behind every homicide case, there are real individuals with loved ones who cherish and long for them.”

“We fully support the gathering that took place on Tuesday as a positive initiative. It was truly inspiring to witness victims and their families uniting, using their voices to raise awareness about their cases.”

“We aim to bring attention to these cases in the hopes that it will encourage more individuals to come forward with any information that can assist investigators.”

“We are all united in our commitment to seeking justice for these victims and resolving these cases.”

“We are listening with respect, actively engaging in private conversations, and assuring you that we are genuinely addressing these cases.”

The Attorney General is prepared and eager to engage in individual or small group discussions with affected family members.
