Wisconsin Leader Faces Potential Recall As Trump Supporters Claim To Have Gathered Sufficient Signatures

Supporters of a campaign to remove Wisconsin Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos from his position due to his stance against former President Donald Trump declared on Sunday that they have gathered sufficient signatures to initiate a recall vote.

On Monday, the supporters of the recall campaign will submit the signatures to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. They claim to have gathered over 6,850 signatures, which is the minimum required number of signatures from voters in Vos’ district in southeast Wisconsin.

Matt Snorek, the initiator of the campaign in January, expressed that the overwhelming support of over 10,000 signatures on our recall petition is a clear indication that people are fed up with the current state of affairs and are seeking new representation.

Vos has dismissed the recall attempt as a waste of time and resources in a statement on Sunday. He expressed doubts regarding the tactics used by the group and the validity of the signatures. Vos assured that a team he had assembled would thoroughly evaluate each individual signature.

The ongoing recall effort against him underscores the persistent frustration felt by Trump’s supporters in Wisconsin’s battleground state following his defeat in the 2020 election. This dissatisfaction is also fueled by Vos’s response to these concerns. This includes his refusal to entertain attempts from Trump and his supporters to decertify Biden’s victory, as well as his decision not to proceed with the impeachment of Wisconsin’s top elections official.

In the 2016 election, Trump won Wisconsin by a narrow margin. However, in 2020, he lost to President Joe Biden by a similar margin of approximately 21,000 votes. Despite undergoing two partial recounts, facing multiple lawsuits, undergoing an independent audit, and being reviewed by a conservative law firm, the election result has remained unchanged.

Snorek said Sunday that they interpreted the court’s decision as confirmation that their efforts in Vos’ current district were correct.

Vos, who was first elected in 2004, has become the longest-serving Assembly speaker in the history of the state, maintaining his position since 2013.
