Authorities in Alabama ask for public assistance in ongoing three-month hunt for escaped fugitive

Authorities in Alabama are seeking the assistance of the public in their ongoing three-month search for an escaped fugitive.

The Alabama Department of Corrections is currently searching for Ricky Lavon Lay, a 39-year-old fugitive who is wanted by the authorities.

Lay stands at a height of 5’10” and weighs approximately 175 lbs. He also sports some tattoos.

Lay, who was convicted of burglary, was currently incarcerated at the Mobile Community-Based Facility and Community Work Center in Mobile, where he was serving a 16-year prison sentence.


According to officials, Lay managed to escape from the Steiner Shipyard where he was currently employed. It was reported that he left the job site without obtaining the necessary approval.

According to officials, he was last spotted on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at around 3:30 p.m., donning a green shirt, blue jeans, and work boots.

Lay is believed to have connections in Mississippi and Alabama and is known to frequently visit both states, according to investigators.

Central Alabama Crime Stoppers is currently providing a monetary reward to anyone who can provide information that will help in locating Lay.
