“Proud that women all over our country are enduring such hardships?” Harris questioned. “Proud that women are being stripped of a basic freedom? Proud that doctors could potentially face imprisonment for simply providing medical care to their patients? Proud that young women today have fewer rights compared to their mothers and grandmothers?”
Harris kicked off her nationwide tour in Wisconsin, emphasizing the significance of abortion as a fundamental aspect of America’s long-standing tradition of personal freedom.
“In America, we don’t wait for freedom to be handed to us. It’s not a gift bestowed upon us. No, freedom is our inherent right,” she passionately declared. “And with that right comes the freedom to make choices about our own bodies, without the interference of government dictating what we can and cannot do.”
Harris recounted anecdotes about women who experienced miscarriages in toilets or suffered from sepsis due to being denied assistance by doctors who were apprehensive about violating abortion regulations.
“This is not just a healthcare crisis,” she emphasized. “It is a stark reality that we cannot ignore.”
In his latest television advertisement, President Biden sheds light on the issue of abortion by sharing the story of Dr. Austin Dennard, an OB-GYN based in Texas. Dr. Dennard had to travel out of state to receive an abortion after discovering that her unborn baby had a devastating condition known as anencephaly.
According to Dennard, in Texas, individuals are compelled to maintain their pregnancies due to the reversal of Roe v. Wade by Donald Trump.
Democrats are striving to restore the rights granted in the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. Unfortunately, given the current composition of the Supreme Court and Republican control of the House, the chances of achieving this goal at the federal level seem slim. Nevertheless, Democrats have found success in state-level campaigns, particularly when the topic of abortion is on the ballot.
“We urge the American people to continue expressing their opinions,” Biden emphasized during a gathering of his reproductive rights task force on Monday.
