Governor Abbott Criticizes $700m Lawsuit Against Texas, Claims Mayor Adams Targeted The Wrong Defendant

Aiexpress – Mayor Eric Adams has taken legal action by filing a lawsuit against 17 charter bus companies based in Texas. This strategic move is aimed at impeding Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s initiative of transporting numerous migrants from the Texas border to New York City.

The case asks for $708 million to pay the city for the costs of shelter, food, and medical care, according to the mayor.

New York City has and will always do our part to manage this humanitarian crisis, but we cannot bear the costs of reckless political ploys from the state of Texas alone,” Adams said in a video accompanying the announcement. “Texas Governor Abbott’s continued use of migrants as political pawns is not only chaotic and inhumane but makes clear he puts politics over people.”

In an interview with Fox News, Abbott dismissed the lawsuit as “baseless” and asserted that Adams “does not know the law.”

What the mayor did, the mayor sued the wrong party,” Abbott said on Fox News Sunday. “If the mayor really is trying to cut down on the number of illegal immigrants coming into New York, he needs to be suing Joe Biden — not these bus companies — because it’s Joe Biden and Joe Biden’s policies that’s causing the massive multimillion influx into the United States that leads to many of them wanting to go to New York.”

“I’m a former Texas Supreme Court Justice, I know the law, and Eric Adams does not know the law,” Abbott continued.

Abbott also addressed Adams’ complaint against his policy during an interview with former NRA spokesman Dana Loesch. During his podcast appearance with Loesch, the Texas governor defended the bus program, claiming that it is being run with Biden’s consent.

It’s a crazy lawsuit with no legality whatsoever,” Abbott said. “Once a migrant gets on a bus or plane from Texas to head up there [to New York], the Biden administration has already authorized them to be in the United States. Because they are in America, the legal rights to the right to travel exists, so Mayor Adams is in violation of their legal rights.”

Abbott also stated that he believes Adams would “lose [the lawsuit] very rapidly” and intends to bill him for the costs of the “frivolous lawsuit.”

Despite Abbott’s confidence in a court victory, Adams insists that the migrant bus program is “anti-American” and should be ended.

Listen, this is a country of immigrants,” Adams said on Good America 3. “The difference between what we did with Ukrainian citizens and other immigrants who have made their way here to this great country is we allowed them to work.”

This is so anti-American, that we’re telling thousands of people you must come to a country and you can’t provide for your children and families. That is not how we are as a country, and that is what is at the heart of this issue.”
