Man Arrested In Downtown Kansas City With ‘sharp Object’

Aiexpress – Kansas City police have apprehended a man who allegedly brandished a sharp object and threatened an officer before taking refuge within a downtown grocery store.

An off-duty officer at the downtown Cosentino’s Market at 13th and Main witnessed a man allegedly attempting to shoplift around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Kansas City police.

The police said the man threatened the officer with a sharp object, so the officer called him.

KCPD said the officer moved back right away and called for help. At the same time, the man locked himself inside the entrance vestibule of the food store. The police said he wouldn’t leave and was making threats to people close to him.

When more police came, they made sure that all the other shoppers were safe and started a standoff.

The man was taken to the hospital by first-responders for medical evaluation, and he is receiving assistance from the Crisis Intervention Team in accessing mental health resources.
