Multi-state drug trafficking investigation leads to arrest of 40 individuals

Forty individuals were apprehended on Tuesday after ten federal indictments were filed in the Southern District of Mississippi. The charges were brought against defendants from various counties in Mississippi, including Lauderdale, Newton, Neshoba, Scott, and Jasper, as well as individuals from Mexico, California, Texas, and Alabama.

The charges filed by prosecutors are a result of a thorough four-year federal investigation into various drug trafficking operations that were involved in the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, and other illicit substances.

The indictments include a range of drug trafficking offenses, such as possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances and conspiracy to commit such acts.

The authorities have not yet apprehended the additional defendants who were named in the indictments.

The initial court appearances are set to commence on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. They will take place before U.S. Magistrate Judges F. Keith Ball and LaKeysha Greer Isaac in U.S. District Court located in Jackson.
