Aiexpress – Authorities have announced the arrest of a man who had been evading capture since the summer of 2022 following the tragic shooting of a US Army Reserve soldier in Baltimore.
Police have reported that Jamal Smith, aged 32, was apprehended by federal and city investigators on Monday in Baltimore after a short barricade incident.
According to officials, on Monday, Jan. 22, the US Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Baltimore Police Department’s Warrant Apprehension Task Force successfully apprehended their target after a brief standoff in the 1400 block of North Milton Street.
The authorities also summoned SWAT teams to the location to provide assistance in dealing with the barricade situation.
Smith has been a wanted individual since June 2022, in relation to the murder and attempted murder charges. These charges are connected to the tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Ryan Harris and left two others injured.
The shooting occurred in the early hours of June 16, 2022, in the 200 block of East Redwood Street. It resulted in the hospitalization of a 29-year-old man and a 31-year-old man.
Smith was arrested without any further incident and charged on the warrant at the department’s Central Booking Intake Facility after the standoff with police.
