Police: Infant Severely Burned By 129-degree Toilet Water After Parents Ignore Problem For A Year

Police allege that a South Carolina couple burned their infant with toilet water that was 129 degrees Fahrenheit.

Nijel David Flowers, 25, and Mahogany Na’Jae Hemingway, 21, voluntarily turned themselves in to police at the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office on April 11. The incident involving the burning of the child took place on March 18, as stated by the police in a Facebook post on Thursday.

The investigation is currently underway, but at present, the couple is facing charges of unlawful conduct toward a child. They are currently being held at the Williamsburg County Detention Center.

According to a report by WCSC, a CBS affiliate in Charleston, Hemingway informed the police that she had been aware of the excessively hot water in their toilet for about a year. Despite this, no action was taken to resolve the issue. Upon investigation, the police discovered that the water temperature reached almost 130 degrees Fahrenheit, whereas water normally boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to the police, Hemingway and Flowers put their infant child in a situation that posed an unreasonable risk, thereby endangering the child’s life, health, and safety.

According to a review of public online court records, the case against is currently docketed in criminal court. It remains unclear whether they have retained attorneys.
