Poll Show Voters Who Have Interest In Election Hits Nearly Two Decades

According to a new NBC News poll, interest in the next election has dropped to its lowest level in over two decades, with only 64 percent of registered voters showing a high degree of interest in November’s election.

The survey results show a decrease in individuals with high levels of interest when compared to prior NBC News polls taken at this time in the 2008 (74 percent), 2012 (67 percent), 2016 (69 percent), and 2020 (77 percent) presidential elections.

According to NBC, the survey’s lowest level of high election interest during a presidential cycle was in March 2012, at 59%.

The poll questioned 1,000 registered voters and asked them who they would vote for, with former President Trump as the Republican candidate and President Biden as the Democratic candidate.

Trump led Biden by 2 points, 46 percent to 44 percent, a reduction from his 5-point margin in January.

Fifty percent of participants also say Trump is being held to the same standard as everyone else in his numerous legal battles, while 43 percent believe he is being unfairly targeted in these proceedings.

We conducted the poll between April 12 and 16, allowing for a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
