Alabama Man Wanted In North Carolina Apprehended In Mississippi

Lowndes County officers nabbed an Alabama man wanted for multiple felony offenses in North Carolina. Sherman Dewayne McCoy, 34, is wanted by the Fayetteville Police Department in Cumberland County, North Carolina, for First-Degree Forcible Rape, First-Degree Statutory Sex Offense, Sexual Act by Substitute Parent or Custodian, and Indecent Liberties with a Child.

Deputies discovered McCoy in an apartment in east Columbus around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and while arresting him, deputies detected the odor of marijuana.

Deputies obtained a search warrant and discovered a criminal amount of marijuana while executing it.

Deputies also retrieved an AR-style weapon and a considerable amount of US currency.

McCoy is set to face serious charges in Lowndes County, as he has been found with more than one ounce of marijuana and is also in possession of a firearm despite being a convicted felon. Once the legal proceedings in Lowndes County are concluded, he will be extradited back to North Carolina.

McCoy has a history of multiple interactions with law enforcement, having been incarcerated at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on eight separate occasions. These bookings were in relation to eight distinct felony charges and 15 misdemeanor charges.

McCoy has committed burglary twice in Lowndes County and has been convicted for it. Currently, McCoy is in custody, waiting for his initial appearance.
