Interstate 435 in KCMO closed due to deadly multi-vehicle crash

According to the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, a fatal accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on northbound Interstate 435 at Eastwood Trafficway in Kansas City, Missouri. The crash involved multiple vehicles and resulted in the unfortunate loss of one person’s life.

The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) was alerted to the accident at approximately 1:32 p.m. The collision involved a semi truck with a trailer and a pick-up truck.

A spokesperson from the Kansas City Police Department has reported that an investigation revealed that a Mack semi was stopped in the “#2” lane of northbound I-435 due to a mechanical issue. At the same time, a Ford F150 was also traveling in the same lane and collided with the rear end of the stationary semi.

According to the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), the driver of the Ford was declared dead at the crash site. Fortunately, the driver of the semi-truck did not sustain any injuries.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, crews closed three northbound lanes of traffic on Wednesday afternoon to clear the scene.

In KCMO, the tragic incident marks the 101st fatal crash of 2023. It is worth noting that there were 87 recorded fatal crashes during the same period last year.
