The era of high school football has come to an end for the talented multi-sport athlete, Jack “Poochie” Snyder. It has been an incredible journey for him, as he emerged as one of Stark County’s most exciting athletes. Now, we will have the opportunity to witness his skills at Sacred Heart University, a prestigious Roman Catholic institution in Fairfield, Connecticut. This Division I member school, affiliated with the NCAA, competes in the Northeast Conference (NEC).
Snyder made significant achievements as the quarterback for the Canton South Wildcats. Prior to his time, the team had never won a conference championship in the span of 59 years. However, everything changed when Snyder took charge and led the team to become conference champions in the last two years.
Junior Season:
During his junior season, the athlete showcased exceptional skills and talent on the field. His performance was nothing short of remarkable, leaving a lasting impression on both fans and scouts alike. With every game, he consistently delivered outstanding results, solidifying his position as a key player on the team. In his junior year, Poochie proved to be an exceptional leader for the Wildcats. He led the team to a commendable (9-4) season record and played a crucial role in securing a share of the Pac-7 Championship. The team made it to the playoffs, winning against Salem and Beaver Local. However, they faced defeat against the Jefferson Area team, led by Grant Hitchcock, with a score of 49-35. Poochie’s performance was outstanding, amassing over 3,000 passing yards and 1,000+ rushing yards. His remarkable achievements earned him the title of first team All-Ohio and OPSWA Div IV first team, among other accolades.
Senior Season
The final year of a student-athlete’s high school career is often referred to as their senior season. It is a time when they have gained experience and knowledge from their previous years and are now ready to showcase their skills and leadership on and off the field.
During their senior season, student-athletes take on a more prominent role within their team. They are often chosen as team captains, entrusted with leading and motivating their teammates. They are looked up to by younger players who seek guidance and inspiration.
In addition to their leadership responsibilities, senior athletes also have high expectations placed upon them in terms of performance. Coaches and fans alike expect them to be at the top of their game and make significant contributions to the team’s success.
Senior season is also a time for student-athletes to impress college recruiters and potentially earn athletic scholarships. It is their last opportunity to showcase their skills and catch the attention of college coaches who are looking for talented players to join their programs.
Off the field, senior season is a time of reflection and celebration. It is a chance for student-athletes to cherish the memories they have made throughout their high school career and to leave a lasting legacy for future athletes to aspire to.

Jack “Poochie” Snyder led his team to an exceptional season, going undefeated with a record of 10-0. This remarkable performance earned them the PAC-7 Conference Championship and a spot in the OHSAA Div. IV State Semi-final game. Although they faced a tough opponent in the eventual Div. IV 2023 State Champion Glenville Tarblooders, they put up a valiant fight, ultimately losing 42-21. Despite this loss, Snyder and his talented teammates finished the season with an impressive record of 14-1.
In addition to the team’s achievements, his individual contributions did not go unnoticed. He was recognized as a finalist for Ohio Mr. Football and received honors such as Div. IV All-Ohio and Div. IV Co-Offensive Player of the Year. He was also named Repository Stark County Player of the Year, WHBC Player of the Year, and PAC-7 Player of the Year. Furthermore, he set records in Stark County for career passing yards (11,083) and touchdowns (122).
Snyder had an impressive performance, putting up impressive numbers on the stat sheet. He threw for 3,980 yards and recorded an impressive 42 touchdowns. Additionally, he showcased his versatility by rushing for over 1,600 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns on the ground. These outstanding numbers bring his career rushing yards to 3,002, with a total of 44 rushing touchdowns. Snyder’s overall contribution to the team cannot be overlooked.

Jack “Poochie” Snyder recently made it official by committing to Sacred Heart last week, signing on the dotted line to play college football at the Div. I level. During an interview, Snyder shared his deciding factor, stating, “The coaches and the campus at SHU felt very similar to home, and I saw a great opportunity to get on the field early.” Snyder spoke with poise and confidence about his choice.
When I asked him about his fondest memory of the ’23 season, he responded by saying, “Winning a regional championship and celebrating with my teammates.” Witnessing that moment firsthand was truly amazing.
