Mary Trump Applauds Fani Willis for Ruining Donald’s Day

Mary Trump, the estranged niece of Donald Trump, commended Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for delivering a blow to the former president’s day on Thursday. She testified in a hearing regarding whether Willis should be disqualified from prosecuting his election interference case.

Judge Scott McAfee oversaw the disqualification hearing for Willis, who has been accused by Trump of election interference in Georgia following his loss in the 2020 presidential election. The hearing focused on whether Willis’ purported romantic involvement with Nathan Wade, a special prosecutor she hired for the case, should lead to her removal from the case, as argued by Trump’s legal team.

The attorneys representing Trump and his co-defendants contended on Thursday that Willis and Wade derived financial benefits from taxpayers’ money, thus asserting her disqualification. Willis, however, has vehemently refuted any allegations of misconduct.

Mary Trump, who has been a vocal critic of the former president, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to express her praise for Willis’ testimony. According to her, Willis played a significant role in making Trump’s day “incredibly bad.” This was particularly significant as Trump was also heading to court for his New York case, which involved allegations of a hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. Daniels claimed that she had an affair with Trump a decade earlier, an allegation that he has consistently denied. Despite being the current frontrunner in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, Trump has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges in his ongoing criminal cases.

During her disqualification hearing, Willis expressed her frustration with the intrusion into people’s personal lives. She clarified that she was not the one on trial, despite attempts to portray her as such. According to Willis, it is the individuals who attempted to steal the 2020 election who are truly on trial.

In her second Substack post titled “WOW: Key Brave Fani Willis Quotes from the Stand,” Mary Trump further elaborated on why she thinks Willis’ testimony had a detrimental impact on the former president. According to Mary Trump, the former president can be characterized as a “bully who is trying to undermine the democracy of the country he claims to love.”

“On live national television, Fani Willis demonstrated a remarkable display of competence and resilience. She fearlessly defended her integrity against baseless accusations and responded with justified outrage. Her testimony will undoubtedly go down in history,” she wrote.

Newsweek contacted Trump’s campaign for comment via email.

Willis focused his investigation on Trump’s call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, where the former president asked him to find additional votes in his favor. He also looked into an alleged plot to submit a false slate of pro-Trump electors to the Electoral College. Trump has accused Willis of pursuing a politically-driven prosecution.

The ruling in Willis’ favor by McAfee after Thursday’s hearing remained uncertain. Although Willis’ testimony was applauded by Mary Trump and others, legal experts previously indicated that the testimony of other witnesses, including Wade, could pose challenges for her, as reported by Newsweek.

According to Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, the testimonies should not have an impact on the legal merits of the case. However, the optics of the situation are unfavorable for Willis.

“He said she should cut her losses, step down, and let someone else take over this prosecution.”

In a recent post to X, MSNBC host Katie Phang expressed her unwavering support for her earlier statement. Phang emphasized that she had not come across any substantial evidence during the hearing that would warrant the disqualification of DA Fani Willis.
