I must admit that sports programs are my refuge from the constant barrage of political news, aside from indulging in a good book. They offer a much-needed escape from reality.
In the world of sports, drama always seems to be in the air. While I may not have the power to change anything, I can certainly sit back, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the show. This year, the lead-up to the Super Bowl has been particularly eventful, with a group of extremists expressing their outrage over a football star daring to date the famous Taylor Swift. As an observer, I’m torn between thinking “Well, bless their hearts!” or simply saying “Aw, c’mon, man!”
Swift is currently in a relationship with Travis Kelce, a player for the Kansas City Chiefs. Kelce, who is known for his impressive skills on the field, has set numerous records and is considered one of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’s favorite receivers. Watching him play is always a thrilling experience.
Kelce and Swift’s relationship is their own private affair, but it’s evident that they are content, smitten, and confident in their bond. As a devoted fan, I can’t help but include her captivating songs on my playlist. I am drawn to her music, mesmerized by her music videos, and deeply respect her ability to assert her creative control over her own work.
Listening to her passionate speeches on social issues and advocating for voter registration, Taylor Swift has quickly become one of my favorite role models – a true “Shero.”
Who is behind these attacks on her and what motivates them to silence her? Do these individuals not wish for the women in their own families to thrive and achieve success? Furthermore, why is all of this happening during a presidential election year? Who has an interest in preventing people from exercising their right to register and vote? These are questions that warrant careful consideration.
During the time when our bookstore, BookManBookWoman, operated in Nashville’s Hillsboro Village, we often had the pleasure of hosting visits from various entertainers. We made sure to create a welcoming environment where they could unwind and explore our books without feeling overwhelmed by constant attention.
One day, Taylor Swift walked into our store and showed an interest in our history section. Just like we often do with our customers, I inquired whether she was looking for books to simply adorn her shelf or if she wanted to gain knowledge. To my delight, she gave the perfect response, and I promptly selected a few of my personal favorite American history books for her to peruse. With that, I left her to explore the vast collection of history books available in our store.
As she headed towards the counter to purchase her books, several fans approached Taylor Swift and requested photos with her. Swift displayed remarkable kindness as she patiently and graciously posed for pictures, taking the time to engage with each fan personally. Before leaving, I took the opportunity to express my admiration for her music and inquire about the comfort of her adorable flat shoes. Having worked in retail and the service industry myself, I understand the impact of sore feet on one’s overall well-being.
I really regret not being able to attend Swift’s final concert in Nashville. It has always been a dream of mine to see her perform live. What I admire most about her is her fearless choice to wear bright red lipstick. It takes a lot of confidence to pull off such a bold look. Red lipstick is my go-to when I want to feel special or boost my mood. Even with professional application, it’s not easy to wear red lipstick without smudging it on your teeth or other parts of your face. Swift, if you happen to come across this commentary, I just want to say, “Keep doing what you’re doing, girl!”
