Over $5.5 million granted to safeguard farms in New York State

New York state is set to receive more than $5.5 million to preserve its farmland.

The money is allocated as part of the Farmland Protection Implementation Grants (FPIG) program.

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that seven different New York farms will receive funding from non-profit organizations to safeguard the land.

The Agricultural Stewardship Association in Washington County is receiving a substantial amount of funding, totaling almost $950,000, for the Horton Farm. This funding will be used to support the 514 acres of farmland in the Capital Region.

So far, the program has successfully protected a total of 113,650 acres across the state.
