Texas Governor Greg Abbott Expresses Frustration Over Loss of State Powers: ‘Unacceptable’

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has expressed strong anger and frustration towards a provision in the newly proposed Senate border security bill. This provision aims to restrict the state of Texas from raising objections to certain aspects of the bill through their local federal court.

On X, previously known as Twitter, Abbott expressed his dissatisfaction by sharing a Newsweek article titled ‘Texas Stripped of Powers in Border Security Bill.’ He further commented, “This is unacceptable.”

The bill outlines the conditions in which individuals who are suspected of being illegal immigrants can seek a judicial review of their deportation orders. It specifies that the United States District Court for the District of Columbia will have exclusive jurisdiction to hear any challenges, whether constitutional or otherwise, regarding the validity of this section or any related written policy directive, guideline, procedure, or its implementation.

Bill Shipley, a former federal prosecutor, expressed his response to this particular section on X. He firmly stated, “This corrupt move would essentially hinder plaintiffs, including the State of Texas, from filing lawsuits in Texas federal courts.”
