Two Teens Charged In Relation To Fatal Super Bowl Parade Shooting

Aiexpress – Two teenagers in Kansas City were charged with criminal offenses on Friday for their involvement in the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade. The incident resulted in the tragic death of a well-respected local DJ and left twenty-four others injured.

According to a statement from Missouri’s Office of the Juvenile Officer, two unnamed teenagers are currently facing charges for illegally possessing firearms and resisting arrest.

The office added that they anticipate adding more charges as the investigation progresses.

The Kansas City police are currently collaborating with prosecutors to determine charges for the shooting that took place on Wednesday afternoon, causing chaos in downtown Kansas City. The suspects involved in the incident have been held at a juvenile detention center during this investigation.

The decision to charge and the involvement of the teenagers in the shooting have been kept secret due to their status as minors, according to the Kansas City Star. As their cases are being processed in family court, the identities of the minors are being protected.

According to the Star, if the teenagers were to be charged with first-degree assault or murder, they would be treated as adults and subjected to a public criminal trial, just like adult suspects.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves made it clear in her statement on Thursday afternoon that there was no connection to terrorism or homegrown violent extremism in the shooting incident. She emphasized that the incident was solely the result of a personal dispute or disagreement.

The authorities have not yet disclosed the specific personal disagreement that may have triggered the tragic shooting. Initially, the police had apprehended a third individual along with the teenagers, but they were later released on Thursday after it was established that they were not involved in the incident.

Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a beloved radio DJ and a cherished figure within Kansas City’s Latino community, tragically lost her life in the shooting incident. The heart-wrenching incident took place right in front of her son, who was also injured but fortunately managed to survive. According to her brother, Lisa’s untimely demise has left a deep void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.

Videos capturing the horrifying scene went viral on the internet, depicting hundreds of people frantically fleeing the vicinity of Union Station in downtown. The incident occurred in close proximity to where the Chiefs’ players were gathering as the parade concluded.

Gunfire and screams reverberated through the air, creating a harrowing soundtrack to the live news reports, one of which was from the reputable BBC. The city of Kansas City, undeterred by the tragedy, has made it clear that it will not hinder future plans to host similar events.
