woman who survived the semi-crash gives credit to her seatbelt for saving her life

Despite suffering from broken bones and a completely destroyed car, Sarah Martin remains grateful. On a regular Tuesday morning commute down K-196, her vehicle unexpectedly skidded on a patch of ice, causing a collision with a tractor-trailer.

Martin explained that he encountered a patch of black ice while driving, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. As a result, he slid over to the opposite side of the road and found himself in the path of an oncoming semi-truck.

She expressed her dismay, stating, “I mean, my vehicle has lost almost half of its structure.”

Wearing her seatbelt is what she credits for saving her life.

“I truly believe that wearing my seatbelt is what saved my life,” she expressed gratefully. “If I hadn’t been wearing it, I would have likely been flung out from under the vehicle.”

Martin, although thankful for her survival, acknowledges that she has a challenging road to recovery ahead.

“I had to undergo surgery to have a rod inserted until the swelling subsides. After that, I will need another surgery,” she explained. “In addition, I have several broken ribs and I’m experiencing a significant amount of pain. I have numerous bruises as well.”

Despite the damage to her vehicle and the knowledge that she will need time to recover, Martin maintains a positive outlook.

She responded, “It could be worse.”

Fortunately, the truck driver escaped unharmed from the accident.
