Arkansas resident celebrates new lease on life after heart transplant surgery

In a small town in Arkansas, a remarkable event occurred that left one resident in awe. It was a miracle that this individual had uncertainly anticipated, but it ultimately came to pass.

Janesha Coleman had been eagerly anticipating a heart transplant for years. When the opportunity finally arrived, she described it as a truly transformative experience.

At the age of 34, Coleman received a diagnosis of congestive heart failure following the birth of her second child in 2019.

Coleman expressed that he constantly felt like he was drowning.

Regrettably, her health deteriorated further during her subsequent pregnancy in 2022.

Coleman explained that they discovered an issue with the left side of her heart, which was not functioning properly. As a result, she had to undergo a procedure to have an impella placed in her. This device greatly improved her breathing and overall well-being.

After her heart stopped for a second time, she was eventually admitted into Baptist Health in November of 2023 and placed on a waiting list for a heart transplant.

According to ARORA officials, there are currently over 3,300 individuals waiting for a heart transplant on the national organ waiting list.

Coleman reflected on the unpredictable nature of life and the uncertainty of when our time may come. “You never know what is going to happen and you never know when your time is coming,” he remarked.

Coleman received a pleasant surprise when hope arrived earlier than she had anticipated.

In an interview with KARK 4 News, Coleman shared her experience eight weeks after undergoing surgery. She expressed that she is currently adjusting to a new reality due to the ongoing flu season.

“I wear a mask and gloves as a precautionary measure since my immune system is weakened,” she stated.

Coleman carries a reminder of her strength and resilience in the form of stitches on her chest, a result of her transplant. As a single mother of three children, she found the motivation to fight fiercely and overcome the challenges she faced.

“There were moments when I felt like giving up, but the thought of my three kids kept me going,” Coleman revealed. “I would wake up in the middle of the night, troubled by nightmares of leaving them behind without knowing what to do.”

During the most difficult period of her life, she shared that her faith played a crucial role in keeping her motivated and resilient.

Coleman expressed her heartfelt prayers, hoping that her loved ones would remain safe and united in the face of any adversity.

She expressed gratitude towards her newfound guardian angel, the organ donor, for blessing her with a new lease on life.

Coleman expressed deep gratitude for receiving someone else’s heart as a donor.

She expressed her gratitude for her faith and emphasized that she values her health, recognizing the importance of every breath.

“It stirs up a multitude of emotions for me because I was blessed with a new heart,” Coleman expressed with gratitude. “Undergoing an open-heart transplant is nothing short of a miracle, and I firmly believe that it is a testament to the power of God.”

Coleman shared that she needs to take 18 medications as a result of the transplant, ensuring that she can witness the growth of her children.

“I pray that my heart doesn’t reject and I can continue to be here. I have faith that God will continue to bless me,” she expressed.

Algerita Coleman, the mother of the young girl, shares in her daughter’s joy as she no longer has to endure the pain.

She expressed the heaviness she felt when she realized she couldn’t do anything to help her in that situation. “It was tough for me to see her, a young mother, with such determination and drive to provide her children with a mother figure in their lives. It made me realize that her parenting skills surpassed my own,” she explained.

Coleman doesn’t mind if her time with loved ones looks different for a while.

She mentioned that whenever her family visits, they also wear masks.

When Coleman experiences moments of uncertainty or doubt, she often turns to her faith for guidance and support.

“I believe that God places us in various situations to test our strength and assess our faith in Him,” she expressed. “While I have always had a close relationship with God, this particular experience has truly deepened that connection.”

She is embracing her new life with her new heart.

“I truly feel blessed to have been given a second chance at life,” Coleman expressed.
