The Wall Township Police Department recently apprehended 19-year-old Shenaaya Hackett from Montreal, Canada, on charges of 3rd Degree Theft by Deception. This arrest comes after an extensive investigation into a bail scam operation.
On Thursday around 2:15 PM, the Wall Township police officers were called to the Manasquan Park area in response to a report. A resident had received a phone call stating that their grandson had been arrested and needed $10,000 for release. The caller also informed the resident that someone would come to collect the bail money.
The police took action by arranging a sting operation at a prearranged location to apprehend the individual who was supposed to come and collect the money. It was during this operation that officers came face to face with Ms. Hackett, resulting in her arrest for the crime of 3rd Degree Theft by Deception. Subsequently, she was taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Facility.
Patrolman Mark Daugherty and Patrolman Trent Powers took the lead in the investigation, demonstrating the department’s dedication to preventing fraudulent activities and ensuring the safety of residents from scams.
