Two People’s accused of using victim’s vehicle to commit murder in Queens

District Attorney Melinda Katz has made an official announcement regarding the indictment of Aaron Mayers and Zahir Williams for the murder of Francisco Ortega, a Brooklyn resident, in Astoria. The charges brought against them include second-degree murder, first-degree gang assault, and multiple counts of robbery. Notably, they used Ortega’s own vehicle in the commission of the crime.

DA Katz believes that the case highlights a disturbing act of brutality, emphasizing the importance of removing individuals like this from our communities.

Williams, a 24-year-old resident of the Bronx, and Mayers, a 25-year-old individual from Pennsylvania, could potentially face harsh legal repercussions if found guilty. The charges against them carry a maximum sentence of 25 years to life imprisonment. Additionally, Williams has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Both defendants are expected to appear in court again on February 27, 2024.

Detective Oliver Kim of the NYPD’s 114th Precinct Detective Squad conducted the investigation, under the supervision of Lieutenant Matthew Barber.
