Casper, a brave Great Pyrenees dog owned by John Wierwille from Decatur, demonstrated incredible bravery when he defended his owner’s flock of sheep from a pack of nearly a dozen coyotes. Despite sustaining significant injuries, Casper fearlessly protected the sheep.
Waking up to the sound of barking, Wierwille quickly rushed outside. There, he discovered his loyal 20-month-old dog, Casper, standing alongside Daisy, another dog. Together, they fearlessly herded the sheep into a protective corner, shielding them from the impending danger.
In a previous Facebook post, Wierville expressed, “Casper has made remarkable progress over the past year. If it weren’t for his absent tail, you wouldn’t be able to tell that he had experienced any trauma.”

Casper Farm Dog of the Year: “People’s Choice Pup,” earned the prestigious title for his remarkable bravery. In recognition of his courageous acts, the AFB presented him with a trophy, Purina products, and a generous cash prize of $1,000.
Wierwille generously donated the prize money to the LifeLine Animal Project, a shelter that took care of Casper after the terrifying incident.
Casper was awarded the honor during the Farm Bureau’s convention, which took place in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Wierwille took to Facebook to express his gratitude, thanking everyone who voted for their courageous, determined, and playful guardian of the livestock.
