The victim of the fatal Chicago Expressway road rage shooting was a loving father and postal worker, according to his family

A 41-year-old father and mail worker named Damian Dunning was killed in a road rage accident on the Stevenson Expressway over the weekend. The fatal event happened not long after Dunning dropped off his nephew at home from a normal basketball practice on Sunday night.

At 10:20 p.m., the Illinois State Police answered a call for assistance regarding a shooting on the northbound ramp to DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The police found Dunning inside his car with a gunshot wound to the head when they got there. Even though people tried to save Dunning, he died from his injuries at a nearby hospital.

There was a mail worker named Dunning who worked hard on a route near Midway Airport. He was also known in the community for being a loving father, brother, and businessman. When the music app he created came out last year, it showed that he was an entrepreneur.

The family has lost two people this year. A 43-year-old security guard at a Family Dollar store in the Austin neighborhood named Loyce Wright was shot and killed on February 23. Wright was Dunning’s cousin. The person who was thought to be responsible for Wright’s death has since been caught and charged.

Dunning’s family talked about how sad they were and how the loss would never go away.

His brother, Roy Shannon, said, “You can’t wrap your mind around it.” “There’s no way.” It doesn’t make sense because Damien wasn’t hurting anyone. He was going home. No one had heard from him all day because he wasn’t around—he was at basketball practice.

Robin Wright, Dunning’s cousin, said that his daughter will finish high school this year, but “he won’t be there.” He was always there for her senior night, but he won’t be there this time.

The family said they don’t think Dunning was planned to be killed and that it could have been an act of road rage. As of Tuesday afternoon, the probe into the shooting death was still going on.
