Whoopi Goldberg Is Stunned to Discover She Is Related to a Kansas City Chiefs Player

Whoopi Goldberg is actively seeking a meeting after learning about her genetic connection to an NFL legend.

During a recent episode of “The View,” historian Henry Louis Gates Jr., host of the genealogy show “Finding Your Roots,” revealed the co-host’s DNA report. The report unveiled an unexpected connection: she is related to former Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons tight end, Tony Gonzalez. The surprising revelation was reported by The Daily Mail.

Gates clarified that Goldberg had previously been featured on a previous version of the series in the early 2000s called “African American Lives,” where they examined the DNA outcomes of various Black celebrities. Nevertheless, since that time, DNA testing has advanced significantly, enabling the utilization of more advanced tests to establish the connection between the actress and the athlete.

“You’re familiar with DNA cousins, right? Well, guess what, dear? You have a DNA cousin,” he enthusiastically informed Goldberg, pausing dramatically before dropping the bombshell, “Tony Gonzalez is your DNA cousin. Now, isn’t that quite the Christmas present?”

Goldberg was left speechless by the revelation and couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She exclaimed, “That’s my cousin?” and extended a warm invitation for him to appear on her show. She pleaded, “Cousin Tony, please come and visit us here at The View. We would love to have you as a guest!”

The connection between the two remains unclear, but he successfully traced her lineage back to 1873. During that time, her ancestors were granted more than 100 acres of land in Florida after submitting an application under the Homestead Act of 1862.

Following closely in his cousin’s footsteps, Gonzalez has retired from the field in 2013. Currently, he serves as an analyst for Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football.
