U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is set to visit the crucial states of Pennsylvania and Michigan this week. The purpose of her visit is to highlight what she describes as “the most robust economic recovery we have ever witnessed.” As the country gears up for the upcoming elections, Yellen aims to emphasize the positive strides made in the economy.

Yellen is scheduled to visit Pittsburgh on February 13 and Detroit on February 14. During her visit, she will engage in events with elected officials and community leaders. The focus of these events will be on the Biden administration’s initiatives to decrease healthcare expenses, provide support to small businesses, and enhance economic opportunities. This information was confirmed by the Treasury department.

Yellen’s visits to Illinois and Wisconsin in January, as well as other states like Nevada and North Carolina last year, laid the foundation for these trips. However, recent polls indicate that the administration’s marketing efforts have not been successful in persuading the American public.

A recent poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos revealed that President Joe Biden is currently trailing behind former President Donald Trump by a margin of six percentage points. Voters are primarily concerned about immigration issues, Biden’s age, and they continue to express dissatisfaction with the economy, despite significant improvements since Biden assumed office in 2021.

Yellen has previously advised for patience, stating that the lasting impact of the COVID pandemic has raised ongoing concerns. However, she remains optimistic about the potential for improving consumer sentiment.

In her speech at the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen emphasized the Biden administration’s role in spearheading an impressive economic recovery over the past three years. Yellen is set to meet with Democratic Senator Bob Casey, a staunch advocate for President Biden’s policies.

The U.S. is experiencing a robust economic growth, with inflation cooling down faster compared to other advanced economies. Additionally, the labor market remains strong.

According to the speaker, Americans now have more purchasing power, thanks to the decrease in unemployment below 4% and the significant increase of 37% in household median wealth between 2019 and 2022. This marks the largest three-year increase in household wealth on record.

In Detroit, a city that has experienced a slower economic recovery compared to others, Yellen will be participating in a joint event alongside Governor Gretchen Whitmer. She will also be meeting with Senator Debbie Stabenow and engaging with local business leaders. Notably, Yellen will be delivering a speech that highlights the significance of small businesses.

According to economists from the University of Michigan, while Detroit has made progress in terms of its economy, other cities in the Midwest have a higher percentage of workers earning a living wage.
